Janet rocks the Today Show despite the rainy weather. Thousands of fans camped out overnight to see the ICON perform live in New York City.

The short interview with Matt Lauer once again revisited the infamous wardrobe malfunction, and just as she promised the Oprah show was the last time she was ever going to address "nipplegate". Good for you Janet!

She performs Call On Me for the first time live with surprise guest Nelly. Get into it ! Ms. Jackson is here to stay !

I don't know about you guys but the last couple of episodes of Noah's Arc has kept me reaching for the kleenex.

A week later and I still find it extremely difficult to watch the gay bashing scene involving Noah. Noah's Arc has a great way of mixing up fantasy and reality, but for the past 2 weeks there's been more reality than fantasy and it has pulled at my heart bringing me to tears and laughter.

I would love to give a full review of last night's show but as always I have to save my thoughts for my review with Steven on pinkmafiaradio.com .

There is only one more episode left in the second season, so make sure you catch the final episode next Wednesday night on
Logo .

I haven't heard any word on whether or not the show will be returning for a third season, but if there's any doubt I will personally organize an e-mail, telephone, and letter writing campaign. I'll let you know if I will need any volunteers.

We have to support the artists and shows who are brave enough to tell our stories. Noah's Arc can never be all things to all people but it's a start.

It's impossible to watch an episode of America's Next Top Model and not notice Miss Jay Alexander, whether he's walking the runway in a pair of 6 inch heels or wearing outrageous fashions on the panel during judging, Miss Jay commands your attention.

As I sat and watched last night's episode it struck me that this was a man who was unafraid to embrace his feminine side and be as over the top as he pleased in front of a national television audience.

I personally think his personality speaks volumes about his character. In an era where hip hop music and fashion has seeped into black gay culture, the effeminate man is ignored, ridiculed, and considered to be passive and weak.

I don't know Miss Jay personally but I can't imagine any of these characteristics applying to him.

Log on to any gay dating website and you will read profiles that say "no queens and no fems".

Besides being extremely talented and entertaining, I consider Miss Jay to be extremely brave. In a climate where homophobia runs rampant, putting yourself on front street as a black queen is not a popular choice.

Miss Jay is definitely one of the reasons why I continue to tune into Top Model. If a fierce runway queen can live authentically in front of millions of people why can't my homo thug brothas in entertainment? I will refrain from listing any names.

Miss Jay : In the words of Rupaul ,"You better work bitch"!

So 20 Y.O. has been released and now the wait begins for the first week sales to come in and all of the album reviews from countless music and media sources. I'm sure the reaction will be split down the middle.

I've been reading a few articles by people who are so quick to write Janet off as an aging pop star. When did someone create an age limit for an artists creativity? I will refrain from posting my own review of the cd on this site because by now I'm sure everyone knows how I feel about Janet. However, I did read a review by my friend Trent that I think was right on the money.

It was written objectively and contained an element of sincerity and respect that I think is missing from a lot of mainstream thoughts and articles about Janet. Check it out and run out and buy 20 Y.O. if you haven't already.

Magic City weekend in Birmingham, Alabama will never be the same after the first scheduled annual SGL party takes place during the traditional hetero weekend of events.

The Magic City Classic is a tradition in the south. Every year at the end of October rival schools Alabama State University and Alabama A&M University meet at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama to face off in one of the most highly anticipated games of the season.

Personally I was always more interested in seeing the bands perform and critiquing the the choreography of the dancers.

But the real show is bound to begin when hundreds of brothas gather in Birmingham of all places to celebrate their blacknessand their sexuality.

In all of the time I've spent in Alabama I've never heard of a publicized party for SGL brothas, this is sure to be an event I don't think I'm going to miss, and if you're down south you shouldn't either. Thanks for the tip Stan!

The wait to own a copy of Janet Jackson's new cd 20 Y.O. ended last night and I recorded every single minute of my experience at Tower Records for you to enjoy too. If you didn't believe I was a hardcore Janet fan before, their will be no doubt in your mind after you watch this video.

I want to send a special shout out to my girl Tramaine Renee for editing the footage for me at 2 o'clock in the morning. Why haven't I learned how to use iMovie yet? Enjoy !

I know do u know? I'm sure by now we've all heard the horrifying HIV/AIDS statistics for black men who have sex with men.
It's estimated that nearly 50% of SGL black men are infected with HIV, half of whom aren't even aware of their status.

It's imperative that if you're living life positive that you're open and honest about your status, and if you're living life negative you accept personal responsibility for asking the right questions before you begin an intimate relationship with your partner.

I came across the video above on a website that I thought would be the last place I would find information on safer sex. I was so impressed that they took it upon themselves to educate the thousands of men across the country who visit their site on a daily basis, I wanted to post it here for my audience to see.

Hopefully it will save a life.

So last night after a long day at work Travis and I decided to go out to Club 708 in midtown. Thursday nights at this club is well known for the live male and female strip shows, and what a show it is, but I digress.

Upon leaving the parking lot we had to cross the street in order get to the entrance of the club, as we stepped into the street both feet in front of us and looking both ways, a Toyota 4 Runner begins to back up and nearly run us over. Now you know I was starting to get a little pissed at the driver for not paying attention to what "he" was doing and I was about to let all of my color come out!

Until "he" stuck his head out of the window to apologize and revealed "he" was not a man at all but the beautiful and talented India Arie ! Now imagine me in the middle of the street about to lose my mind! I was screaming inside but no sound would come out of my mouth. All I wanted her to do was hit us so the 5 seconds we shared could be extended for a longer period of time! I would just make her play the guitar and sing to me right there in the middle of the street all night.

Now that was a beautiful surprise, and just when I thought my night couldn't get any better I got pulled over by the cops for speeding on my way home. I was driving 83 mph in a 55 mph zone. So he promptly wrote me a speeding ticket and sent me on my way reminding me I had 30 days to get Georgia plates and driver's license, yeah right! Welcome to Atlanta !

Today I thought I would share with you guys a moment that changed my life for the better.

It was during this time that I stepped into my purpose in spite of the fear that I felt inside. Have you ever felt you had a calling on your life to do specific work that could affect the lives of hundreds of people? It was a calling that I heard years before I accepted it in May when I started this blog.

My journey as an activist and blogger is heavily influenced by the work and life of Keith Boykin. Keith introduced my story to the blogosphere and unknowingly gave me the strength to walk in my purpose.

I'll never forget how I felt that day on May 11, 2006 when I looged onto his site, all at once everything started to make sense. Click here to experience that day with me all over again.

On September 26th Ms. Janet Jackson will release her latest masterpiece, 20 Y.O. ,the follow up to the multi-platinum Damito-Jo. Prepare yourselves for a very candid interview with Oprah Winfrey on Monday and a performance on The Today Show on the 29th.

Everyone is waiting to see who will sell more records during their first week, Beyonce(541,000), Justin(614,000), or Janet.

I know many Janet haters are expecting her to fail but I do believe 20 Y.O. will be for Janet what The Emancipation of Mimi was for Mariah Carey.

Brace yourselves, 20 years later she's still in CONTROL.

The L.A. based In The Meantime men's group has continued their billboard campaign in the black community with two new billboards shown above, "The lives of black gay men matter to God" and "Heads up young brothers you are the future". I have to say that I have become a raving fan of this organization. Not only because I was apart of this organization when I lived in L.A. , but because they are unafraid to be visible in a community who are aware SGL blacks exist within the community, but will only tolerate us as long as we're silent.

Well director Jeffrey King and his members have decided to "act up" and their doing so by placing the pro gay billboards right in front of West Angeles C.O.G.I.C. , home of Bishop Charles E. Blake and his ten thousand plus congregation.

What I would give to attend service this Sunday and to walk out onto the street to hear all the church ladies in their best Sunday hats gossiping about these billboards!

I would love to hear Bishop's thoughts, maybe I'll send him an e-mail and ask for a statement. We'll see if I get a response.

To be continued...

On September 18th writer, director, and executive producer Maurice Jamal of the new film "Dirty Laundry" signed a major motion picture deal to bring his film to theaters all across the country.

I had the pleasure of seeing his film during Outfest in LA in July. I was sick that weekend but I knew I would feel even worse if I missed this film.

A modern-day prodigal son story with a twist, the film follows a traditional southern family dealing with the return Patrick (Rockmond Dunbar), a successful Manhattan writer who suddenly left home and never looked back. After ten years, he has returned to discover a secret that could rock his “perfect” life. In the center of the conflict is his hard-edged mother Evelyn (Loretta Devine), whose own story holds as much drama and secrecy as her son's.

This clash of cultures and lifestyles is far more than a comedy. It’s heartfelt, tender and raw. Often striking emotional notes within this family, which ring true in all of ours. The family he left behind has to come to terms with the root of why he fled, which involves the complex issues of race, sexuality, and class.

When this film is released nationwide let's make sure we go out and support this team of extraordinary talented black artists.

This is the first film that will be seen by the world that will tell our story. Tell all of your friends and family members, not since The Color Purple has a film been released that I think will spark a dialogue in our community surrounding sexuality, family, and faith,a dialogue that's been long overdue.

I recently came across an article in The Advocate that was written by a 19 year old gay teen from Longview, Washington named Kyle Rice.

In this article Kyle spoke about his struggle to surpress his same sex attractions in order to live the life he knew God wanted him to live. Kyle describes himself as a conservative republican who has fought to keep pro gay legislation from passing in his state, despite being fully aware of his homosexuality. He even goes so far to say that he hates being gay and has attended ex-gay ministries in an attempt to "change".

This article struck a very sensitive chord with me for many different reasons. I personally know what it feels like to be both gay and christian and the inner turmoil it can cause if you believe every single word that is written in the bible, and if you receive every word from a minister's mouth as truth, especially when it's regarding homosexuality, or just sex period.

Secondly, I was texting a friend hours before reading the article who was going through a similar situation.

It's no secret that I'm pro black and pro gay, but before I became aware of any of those things I was in the hands of a supreme being who knew me before I knew myself, who watched over and cared for me better than I or my parents ever could. I call him Jesus, you may call him Mohammed, Buddha, the Light, whomever you worship it's fine .

I decided very early that I was not going to let anyone or anything stand in the way of my relationship with God or block the blessings that I knew were mine to claim, not even my sexuality, nor I did I believe it would.

Words are so powerful, and if you as a same-gender loving person don't know your worth and realize your inheritance in God's kingdom, or don't take the initiative to study the word on your own, then you'll find yourself writing articles like Kyle and hating the the very thing God created, yourself.

On April 25 ,1996 Jonathan Larson’s rock-opera RENT opened at the Nederlander Theater on Broadway in New York City. It was a musical that changed the look and sound of musical theater forever, ushering in a new era in musical theater.

The musical chronicles the lives of a group of bohemians living on the lower east side of Manhattan as they cope with poverty, heartache, and disease.

This musical holds a special place in my heart and in the lives of some of my closest friends, so you can imagine how overwhelmed with emotion I became upon learning that my friend Scottie McLaughlin had been cast in the role of Tom Collins in the Japan production.

I met Scottie in 1998 at The American Musical & Dramatic Academy in New York City where we were both students in their musical theater program. We quickly became friends and later roommates. We both felt a connection to the message in this show and knew that if given the chance we could do the show 8x a week, hell we’d even do it for free. Rent was the show that every performer in New York City wanted to land a job in, even if they wouldn’t admit it.

I look back on my days in New York City with very fond memories, despite us being poor as hell, living in horrible conditions, and at times facing eviction, I was surrounded by Scottie, Charles, Alicia, and Christian, people who knew how to give love and receive it in return. We lived what the characters in RENT are singing about.

Dreams do come true. I can remember playing the lottery with Scottie in front of the Nederlander Theater in an attempt to win $20 tickets to see the show from the front row, now he’s going to be apart of the cast !

Scottie when you go onstage every night I want you to remember all of the endless callbacks we went through, all of the times people told you no, all of the times casting agents tried to put you in a box because they didn’t know how to package your look, remember the apartment in Brooklyn we shared that should have been closed by the health department, remember all the struggles and use it towards your advantage.Take those hard times onstage and tell Jonathan’s story, our story.

I couldn’t be more proud of you...No Day But Today.

Lately I've been having a love/hate relationship with Beyonce, and I was trying to figure out how I could describe the way I was feeling about her without undermining her obvious talent or sounding like a hater.

I was reading novaslim.com , one of my favorite blogs and I came across a comment from a reader that totally summed up my flip-flop attitude towards baby Janet, I mean Beyonce ! You can read it below, brown sista just took the words right out of my mouth.

Brown Sista's comment from novaslim.com:

I don't think Beyonce will be a footnote if we don't allow her to be.We must as a people learn to respect those who have paved the way for us.This is why I hate how so many are trying to tear down Janet in order to build up Beyonce.Janet is our Black Gold and we must always respect that.Beyonce is our future Black Gold and 20 years from now if she is still here we must keep her spirit alive. That is what I believe Oprah's Legend's Ball was about.

Okay, I know I am straying a little, but in an era where everyone is really just a head mic wearing clone of Janet, isn't it nice to see Bey just take the stage and and be a little wild and agressive just like Tina was back in the day? Beyonce is fearless.Who else but her would have the guts to fall out and wiggle all over the floor like a dying roach on the BET Awards...lol? Bey don't care, she just goes for it and I respect that.

What she really needs to do IMO is dump those darn BEAT MAKERS she use as poducers. She needs to hook up with real producers who are real musicians.I would love to have seen what Beyonce could have done with Babyface in his prime or Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis who based on Janet's Damita Jo album is obviously still in their prime.Plus give Bey some more time to grow and let's see what happens.

You know I cannot believe I am doing this cause I AM NOT A BEYONCE FAN and hate how nasty her fans are when it comes to Janet and how the public in general seems to want to tear Janet down to uplift Bey.But I gotta stand up for what I think is right.Bey is no Alicia Keys but she's the biggest Black female act out there and again, I gotta ride with her based on that alone :)

Recently I was reading the blog of my good friend Jonathan and I came across a very personal post about his appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show as a black SGL man living with HIV and his appearance in an adult movie that was filmed in 2002.

I consider myself to be very fortunate to call him a friend and we've had numerous conversations about these two controversial appearances.

While many people like to speculate on how Jonathan contracted HIV and gossip about his sexual past and present, I applaud him for being brave enough to disclose his status not only to his sexual partners but to the world.

In an effort to pay his college tuition to complete his degree, Jonathan starred in an adult film in 2002, that now threatens to undermine his work in HIV/AIDS prevention and at times is a direct attack on his character and integrity.

So often we get caught up in the public persona of people we see on tv and we fail to realize that the person we're watching is a human being that bleeds red blood, cries when they're sad, laughs when they're happy, and are affected by the stones that people throw just like the next man.

Sometimes I wish Jonathan wasn't so transparent with everyone, it's not easy watching my friend in pain as a result of what some uninformed idiot has said regarding his HIV status. But just think about how low the HIV transmission rates would be if everyone disclosed their status or just got tested for starters?

We do not always agree on everything, but there is one thing that we will always have in common, a friendship that exemplifies the true meaning of unconditional love.

Jonathan you're my Judy! Remember even Jesus Christ was persecuted and look at his impact on the world.

After 13 years of marriage Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston are finally calling it quits, and it only took numerous career setbacks, an embarrasing drug addiction, the infamous Diane Sawyer interview, and who could forget her appearance on the Michael Jackson tv special looking thin as a rail. It took all of this for Whitney to realize Bobby was tearing her down instead of building her up.

Before you start to think I'm anti-Whitney let me inform you that I think her career pre-Bobby would have made her a living legend and I'm truly saddened by the events that have taken place in her life over the past few years.

I honestly hope that out of this painful divorce Whitney will be able to resurrect her career and her image.
Word on the street is that Clive Davis is back in the picture, hopefully we will get a major comeback album from her like we got from Mariah Carey.

I know there's still a voice inside of her body that's dying to come out, and let's face it, radio could use a hot Whitney Houston track. Are you tired of hearing Cassie yet?

Last week's episode of Noah's Arc was by far the best episode ever! Forgive me for being late on this post but believe it or not I just saw the episode for the first time last night. I don't have cable in my new place yet and my work schedule is so crazy I was deprived of seeing it when the rest of the country did last week.

Can someone please tell me why the 5th episode wasn't posted on iTunes until yesterday? I had become accustomed to downloading the show the day before it airs but iTunes tricked my ass last week !

I will post a full review of the episode with my friend Steven in the days to come. I'm a week behind, the new episode airs tomorrow night. Enjoy !

Last night I went out for the first time since relocating to Atlanta to a hot nightspot called "The Jungle".

First of all it was a Monday night and I couldn't believe that people actually go out on a Mondays, but believe me when I say the place was packed!

You can go out in Atlanta every night of the week if you choose to do so and party like it's the weekend. I'm definitely not in L.A. anymore because me and my crew didn't roll out until 1:30 A.M and we know everything closes in L.A. around 2 .

If you're ever in Atlanta you definitely want to attend The Jungle, I saw one of the best drag shows I've ever seen last night, those southern queens really know how to put on a show!

Black Gay Pride weekend is officially over but it's everyday here in Atlanta. I'm lovin it !

So moving to Atlanta has turned out to be a blessing and a curse, and I knew it would be. While I’m extremely happy to be living in a cheaper city surrounded by a group of my closest friends, I’m less than pleased about how close I am to the city where I grew up and all the drama that awaits me every time I return home.

If my family were not still residents of Montgomery, Alabama I swear I would’ve never gone back after I left in 1998.

So yesterday after church I decided to make the 2 hour drive up I-85 south to visit my family for the day, unannounced.
I knew my mother wanted to see me, and I was beginning to feel bad about the rush visit I had last week when I made it down for just a few hours to help my best friend and roommate Bennie move the rest of his things .

One thing I always look forward to is my mom’s good cooking, she can throw down!

After the meal was over and I was so full all I wanted to do was take a nap, I was informed that we had to go and visit my uncle who is in a diabetic coma. It was hard seeing my uncle lying almost lifeless in his hospital bed having to have everyone do small things for him that he once did for himself such as brush his teeth .Seeing him in this state made me appreciate life even more than I already do, and it confirmed for me that I never want to hang on if my health ever failed to such a degree.

The visit had been pleasant and drama free until what happened next

Enter my very funny and outspoken grandfather. To know him is to know that he say’s whatever is on his mind regardless of who it might offend. I know this to be true about him, so what happens next didn’t really bother me because it wasn’t a first, but the reaction from the onlookers is what set me off in my mind.

GD: Darian where is your girlfriend?

Me: I don’t have one grandaddy.

GD: What?! You don’t have one?

Me: Nope

GD: Why not? You’re up in Atlanta all by yourself. Don’t you think it would be a little easier on you if you had a girlfriend?

Me: I’m not by myself grandaddy, I have great friends and a career I love.

GD: Well if you don’t have a girlfriend with you the next time you come home you might as well stay in Atlanta.(very little humor behind this statement)

Me: Well I guess I’ll be staying in Atlanta because I won’t have one.(still in a very respectful tone)

Meanwhile my mother leaves the room to keep me from seeing her face turn blue and my sister stays for a minute so I can see the look of disgust on her face, she then exits only to return minutes later to stare at me with her eyes of disapproval.

I wanted to answer my grandfather’s question truthfully, but then I had to ask myself what good would it do? This is an elderly man who was raised in the old south and has no awareness of the gay community at large . I’ve learned that I have to pick and choose my battles and I just don’t think that was a battle worth fighting.

Every part of me wanted to stand up and give my “I’m black, SGL, and proud speech, but that would have caused some real drama and I was in no mood.

I thank God for growth because years ago that incident would have enraged me to the point where I would still be in an argument as you’re reading this post.

This time I just laughed out loud and thanked God for allowing me to be comfortable in my skin. I know who I am and I love myself. I just wish my family allowed themselves to love all of me too.

"Where two or more of you are gathered in my name, there I will be". I would always hear my grandomther quote this scripture and I never really thought about it's meaning until yesterday.

I managed to get my two best friends Bennie and
Travis to attend service with me, surprisingly there wasn't much resistance on their part seeing as though we were attending a church known for their inclusion of SGL people, aka the "sissy church".

I've heard of churches that are welcoming and affirming of SGL people referred to as such and I still can't understand why so many of my SGL friends refuse to step inside of one of these churches.

I had an SGL friend tell me that" uh uh...I'm not going to that church, they're openly gay there and it's accepted and it's just too much for me". Will somebody please tell me what in the hell he meant by that statement? It sounds as if it's ok to be gay in church as long as you're silent about it and your sexual proclivity which is your "sin" is done in the dark.

This came out of the mouth of an SGL individual. I've said it once and I'll say it again, internalized homophobia is alive and well in the gay community. It pains me to see my brothas and sistas who desire a relationship with Christ return to these homophobic churches only to be spiritually raped Sunday after Sunday while never reaching the goal of spiritual maturity.

Service was spirit filled and exactly what I needed to start my week. There were no men hooking up, passing numbers down the pew, or any of the other nonsense that people warned me about prior to going( most of whom had never been).

I'm at a point spiritually in my life where I want to have a real relationship with God, and I want to establish that in a church free from the Eddie Long's and Bishop Alfred Owens' of the world.

With everything that occured on Sunday with stress of my family ,I opened my inbox to an e-mail from a close friend who exemplifies what it means to be "christ-like". It brought me to tears and touched my heart so deeply I thought everyone should have the opportunity to read it.

The E-mail

I know you think Im a prude. Im really not...just trying to answer the call of God to the best of my ability. I have been really frustrated as of late with how people deal with homosexuality in all facets of life. Im frustrated with the churches that beat down the kids like we were stealing and murdering folks. Im equally frustrated with the churches that tell people that anything goes...as long as you believe in Jesus, eat, drink and be merry. Both are wrong. The bottom line of my whole life is this....I want people to know the God I serve...not know Him on the surface, but know Him intimately. There is no greater love than His love. I have loved lots of people and every single one has hurt me. What I love about God is that He has used these hurts to teach me something about Him. People will debate whether certain things are a sin or not until Jesus comes back. All Im going to do is take every day that I live and try to be a living example of Christs grace, love and peace.

I love you so much, and while we dont agree on somethings it doesnt change the fact that I love you. Be good....
