As expected Mo'Nique took home the award for Best Supporting actress for her brilliant performance as abusive mother Mary Jones in 'Precious' at last night's 82nd annual Academy Awards.

The multi-talented comedienne, actress and talk show host now adds the coveted gold statue to a long list of prizes collected during this award season including a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award.

Rod 2.0 notes that "Mo'Nique becomes the fifth black woman to win an acting Oscar on tonight, some 70 years after Hattie McDaniel became the first to do so for "Gone with the Wind." Mo'Nique's electric blue dress was the same color as McDaniel's evening gown when she won for GWTW."

During her acceptance speech Mo'Nique thanked the academy for "showing that it could be about the performance and not the politics". It's perceived by many that Mo'Nique also indirectly addressed the backlash from fans regarding the admission of she and husband Sidney Hicks' open marriage.

"To my amazing husband Sidney, thank you for showing me that sometimes you have to forgo doing what's popular in order to do what's right."

In a surprise win, Geoffrey Fletcher also won best adapted screenplay for Precious beating out early favorite "Up In The Air".
