Another great PSA on the importance of knowing your HIV status following the "Greater Than AIDS" campaign by the Black AIDS Institute introduced yesterday on loldarian.com.
"Status Is Everything" is a series of public service announcements lead by FEMWORKS, Newark's premier multicultural marketing agency for the African-American Office of Gay Concerns. The PSA's utilize real black LGBT people in the age group most at risk for contracting HIV/AIDS. The subjects share their real life stories of living and loving in the face of HIV and the real fear of being tested and living with a positive diagnosis. The campaign also includes a text message program to find HIV testing centers, 1-800 hotline, billboards, bus wraps, TV commercials, and the official website.
One of the most moving PSA's comes from 42 year old Louis who speaks of unprotected sexual encounters in one of Newark, New Jersey's most infamous parks:
"Condom negotiation is hardly the first thing that comes to mind when you're meeting someone in the park. The quick thing is to get it and to get out. I look healthy and you would never know that I was once diagnosed with AIDS and told that I wasn't going to live after a year."
