Happy Monday! You guys may remember me mentioning in a past post that I was going to be participating in The Right To Marry Campaign in Phoenix, Arizona with Soulforce. Well the time has come and I'm indeed in Phoenix marching for marriage equality in the middle of the hot ass desert!

The weather may be 104 degrees but that isn't stopping us from walking 96 miles over the course of 6 days for equality. Arizona was the first state to defeat Proposition 107 in 2006, the amendment that would have banned gay marriages from taking place in the Grand Canyon state.

On November 4th Arizona voters will once again be faced with the discriminatory Proposition 102 on their ballots when they go to the polls.

Coming from Georgia, where marriage discrimination was unfortunately enshrined in the constitution in 2004, I felt compelled to lend my voice towards the fight for marriage equality in Arizona to help achieve a different outcome. Our lives matter to God. And our relationships and families deserve all of the protections and benefits associated with marriage. Separate will never be equal.

Over the next few days we will engage faith communities, elected officials, and ordinary citizens in conversation as we tell our personal stories.

The media has been with us every step of the way and MTV will be walking with us later on today. I'm going to do my best to open this amazing experience up to you guys via my blog.

If you're in Phoenix feel free to join us as we walk. Our route can be found here. You can also check out news coverage via Fox News 10 Phoenix here and here.

Sorry I missed you. I live in Phoenix and didn't hear of this until the day of your arrival. Be happy you only had to deal with 104 degree weather. We've been averaging around 110.

And yes - we're working to defeat Prop 102 when it hits the ballot.
Keep up the great work.
