Blogger, celebrity commentator, and media personality B. Scott is living up to the declaration that 2008 is going to be his year. After appearing in the February issue of CLIK Magazine in a piece that was written by yours truly, accepting an invitation by D.C. promoter Daryl Wilson to host The Ladies of Laughter Comedy Show during Memorial Day Weekend, and the increasing popularity of his YouTube videos comes even bigger news.
Angel Laws, creator of the urban entertainment site Concrete Loop announced last week the addition of "Ask B. Scott". Every Friday B. Scott will give advice on relationships, sex, fashion and everything else in between. Readers will be given the opportunity throughout the week to post questions for B and he will choose one question each week to be the topic of his video blog.
It's no secret that I love myself some B.Scott and I couldn't be more proud of his success. And in a perfect world his presence on a site that is dominated by hip-hop content and ultimately homophobic attitudes wouldn't be a big deal, but we don't live in a perfect world and it is.
The announcement of the Concrete Loop/B. Scott collaboration isn't sitting well with many of Concrete Loop's faithful readers and they're not holding back in the comments section.
But as I was reading the comments I couldn't help but think about something B. Scott told me over lunch a month ago. "Sometimes it feels like I'm preaching to the choir. If I want to change minds about gay people I'm gonna have to go into the straight community."
As uncomfortable as this may be for some people I believe some good may come out of this. Kudos to Angel and her team for embracing B. Scott and not allowing the negativity to influence their decision.
Check out "Ask B. Scott" every Friday on Concrete Loop. Get into his first entry for the site below.
