2004 American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino's inspiring life story is coming to Lifetime television. Based on the best-selling novel by the same name, the movie chronicles Fantasia's life before being crowned the winner of the hit Fox tv show.

A high school dropout and single mother, the cards were stacked against Fantasia until she took control of her life and used her talent as a vehicle to escape the life she knew she didn't want to live.

Initially I was a little worried when I heard she was playing herself in a movie based on her life, mainly because I wasn't sure if she had the acting chops to pull it off, but judging from the clips available on Lifetime she seems to have transitioned from Fantasia the singer to Fantasia the actress smoothly.

The film is directed by veteran Debbie Allen and also stars Loretta Devine, Kadeem Hardison, and Viola Davis.

I'm a huge fan of Fantasia's music and I'm anticipating the premiere of what I think is going to be a really good film.
