I just wanted to take a minute to answer some of the questions I've been receiving via e-mail, Facebook, and Twitter and also thank everyone for all of the support and for continuing to visit the blog even during the months I've been away.

As you know I took a hiatus from blogging during the beginning of the summer to work on my first book which will be released next spring. However, due to the unfortunate rash of gay teen suicides, the Eddie Long scandal and your requests for me to return to cover the stories important to our community, I felt I had an obligation to push the book aside momentarily and return to Living Out Loud.

The blog was never suspended indefinitely and is a huge part of my life so it's here to stay. I'm currently finishing up the last section of the book and I hope to turn it over to the publisher before Christmas.

When Love Takes Over: A Celebration of Same Gender Loving Couples of Color will be a coffee table book featuring the lives of eighteen black gay couples in long-term relationships based on my successful Coupled Up series. I'm extremely excited to share a project with the world that is a positive reflection of our lives as black LGBT people. I hope I will have your support.

I'll most likely pull back from daily updates again as I try to birth this new project as well as preparing to begin my first semester as a journalism student. Yea!!!

In the meantime, feel free to peruse my commentary on For Colored Girls published by The Advocate and The Daily Voice.

Much love,
Darian

There are so few examples of people of colour who are in gay relationships that, despite the expected expense, I will be purchasing this book when it is finally published!

Darian,

I LOVE that book cover. My reasons may offend you, but it's simply that seeing 2 black men (not biracial, but dark men) on the cover is incredible. People don't talk about it much, but the self-hate and skin color issues that affect most African-Americans have a greater impact on the SGL men (the triple whammy issue surronding being black, gay, males). Thank you for this. Again, if I offended you I apologize. I'm just telling you how I feel.

Darian, I wish the greatest of luck as you draw close to the completion of your book! Same-gender love is something we all desire and what better way to celebrate that than reading about "success stories"among our beloved black gay men and women!

Once you get it published, you might as well put In The Meantime on your list of book tour stops :) Good luck!

Of course it's your book and you can call it what you wish but if your new book is about black gay couples exclusively, shouldn't the title have the word black (or African-American) in it instead of "couples of color"?

The term "couples of color" doesn't seem entirely accurate to me if you are going to feature black gay couples exclusively in your book. It implies (at least to me) a degree of discomfort with the word black (or African-American).

Of course, I enjoyed the series and intend to buy the book when it comes out.

@Anonymous

Thanks for your comment and early interest and support in my book. As far as the title is concerned I'm not married to it and I appreciate your observation, but to assume there is a level of "discomfort" with the terms black or African-American is totally off base.

I wil definitely consider your recommendation. I look forward to sharing the book with you.

Darian,

As a 40+ brother in Alabama who's a late bloomer to the life I anticipate the arrival of your new book. Prayerfully it will give me, at the very least, an ounce of inspiration that a SGL relationship is possible. Running into so many liars and game players makes me want to throw in the towel and call it quits.
