An update on the horrific murder of Syracuse, NY transgender woman Lateisha Green covered on loldarian.com last November.

Suspect Dwight DeLee,20, is set to stand trial on July 13th in the fatal shooting that took Lateisha Green's life when he fired a .22 caliber rifle into her chest as she sat in a parked car with her brother Mark Cannon.

DeLee went into the home at 411 Seymour St. to get the rifle after guests at the party started "making profane and vulgar comments in regards to the sexual preference of our two victims, DeLee went into the home at 411 Seymour St. to get the rifle after guests at the party started "making profane and vulgar comments in regards to the sexual preference of our two victims,">according to Police Chief Gary Miguel.

Roxanne Green, mother of the victim, is convinced that her daughter was killed because of her gender identity. Dwight DeLee faces hate crime and second degree murder charges. DeLee recently asked the court to throw out the hate crime charge, the judge refused to do so.

Lateisha Green, born Moses Cannon was in the process of transitioning at the time of her death. New York law does not cover gender identity and expression, so in an insensitive and unfortunate move Green will be referred to as a male instead of her true gender identity.

Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund are planning a memorial for Green in her hometown the weekend before the trial begins.

A Facebook group has been started in her memory with over one thousand members to date. "However, the site for Angie Zapata, another murdered trans woman had 5,000 members at the same time period", according to Monica Roberts of Trans Griot. And there's been a huge disparity in the media coverage vis-a-vis the two trials.

Court TV AKA Tru TV covered Angie Zapata's murder trial.

Not many people have heard of Ms. Green.

No one deserves to die the way Lateisha did.

As far as Court TV covering Angie Zapata's story and not Ms. Green's, well, that just goes to show you racism is still in full swing.
