There's a new black gay magazine hitting the street from author and Editor-In-Chief Michael-Christopher(From Top To Bottom) and it looks as if the void left by past gay publications will now be filled.

Based in Washington, D.C., SWERV will focus on culture and community. Each issue will feature same-gender loving men and women in visual and performing arts, music, literature, film, television, sports, and politics. SWERV Magaine will also include sections on health and fitness, cuisine, news and special events.

"SWERV Magazine represents a turn from the usual", says Co-publisher Jamil Fletcher. "A movement against the grain, an alternative to the norm. SWERV represents the voice of African-American members of the LGBT community, a population that often turns aside from both mainstream African-Americans and the larger LGBT community."

Christopher hopes to celebrate both our sexuality and culture on the pages of SWERV and highlight individuals within our community whose voices may often go unheard and raise them higher.

The premier literary issue at select locations on December 1 serves up some of the best gay and lesbian fiction from authors Marvin K. White, Steven G. Fullwood, Ernest Hardy, Lisa C. Moore, Laurinda Brown, & Stanley Bennett Clay just to name a few.

SWERV will be published four times a year(Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall) free of charge and can be found at nightclubs, health clubs, community-based organizations, select bookstores and other locations frequented by the black LGBT community.

Best of luck to Swerv. I'm definitely going to subscribe as I'm sure it'll never be carried in a bookstore in Phoenix.

We lost Venus and now we've lost Clik. Whatever comes our way I'm going to support. I just pray they have staying power.
