There are very few things in life that I regret, meeting my ex-boyfriend would definitely be one and not attending Sizzle this year in Miami would be second. I actually had the weekend off with flying benefits and a VIP card thanks to my boss, but I chose to live vicariously through my friends who were basking in the beauty of thousands of black men on the beautiful sandy beaches of Miami.
This crazy decision definitely qualifys me for a "what in the hell were you thinking award"? . But I know I wasn't the only person absent from the festivities, so if you didn't make it down to Sizzle I'm bringing you the hottest recap of the weekend's events thanks to an anonymous guest blogger. 10 Things You Should Know
This year I had the opportunity to attend Miami Sizzle's 6th Annual event in sunny Miami, Florida, and to call it pandemonium would be a true understatement. CEO Dwight Powell and his team (Lorenzo Turner, Cordell McClary and Luis Medrano) launched one of the highest-octane and activity packed holiday weekends I've ever been apart of.
Miami was the perfect backdrop for this sexy, ultra-classy affair where I received eye candy that will have me running to the dentist for a fill in. In a twist this year the 4 Star Hyatt Regency Miami happily welcomed the 'gay dollar' as it acted as the host hotel instead of the satellite hotel from previous years. The city welcomed the black gay community with open arms as the mayor of the booming metropolis, Carlos Alvarez, delivered a personal welcome letter that was included in the events brochure.
Droves of same gender loving men and women came from all across the world to be a part of an event that is catered to us-and most importantly by us. From The Sizzle Booze Cruise, The True Queens Of Comedy, The Haulover Beach Control, Carnival, and everything in between. The Sizzle organization executed the daunting task of providing interesting yet sexy events flawlessly.
But don't think the Memorial Day weekend was just about parties and clubbing because it wasn't. When I needed to get away and relax I strolled on over to Sizzle Village and lost myself in the movie lounge, caught up on some emails in the Cyber Café, and just laid back in the hospitality lounge. There was a fascinating open-forum discussion on online hook-ups and sex moderated by Derrick L. Briggs. Andre Mizrahi, in association with Sizzle Miami, presented the Bring It Ball where contestants competed for a cash prize of $7, 500.00.
Since this was my inception to the ultra-elegant, five-day excursion I'll have to admit that there were a few things I did right, and a few things I did wrong. I thought that I would compile a list of do's and don'ts that will guarantee you the best experience possible while you make Miami your destination for next year's first Summer holiday weekend.
1. Purchase a VIP card! Sizzle offers different VIP access cards that secure your admission to every Sizzle sponsored event. There's no waiting in line, no worrying about getting into a party, nothing. I had one and I got the chance to see everything while my friends weren't so lucky. If you're a true baller might I suggest the VIP Black Card!
2. Rent your own vehicle and book your own hotel room!! Let's face it, friends are great and you want to experience a great time while in their company. But when it comes to hook-ups, and late night adventures, it's best that you have your own accommodations so that you don't have to answer to anyone or wait for anybody when you're out and about.
3. Leave the attitude at home! Listen, everybody knows that we gays can be some shady bitches, however, when you're coming to a gay event you need to be as open to meeting as many people as possible. In the long run you're only hurting yourself by walking around acting like your shit don't stink.
4. Safe sex is very important, but I think it's pointless to waste your money on condoms upon arriving. Every place I went over the weekend seemed to have free condoms (yes, even the ones to fit us blessed downstairs bruthas). I didn't even get a chance to crack open the fresh box of Magnum XL's I brought with me.
5. LEAVE YOUR BOYFRIENDS AT HOME!!! I can't stress this suggestion enough. This event, as classy as it is, isn't for couples. There are so many scantily clad men walking around that are bound to approach you with things other then "getting to know you" on their mind. Just don't play yourself by bringing your significant other. There are bound to be issues! I personally witnessed three couples break up while in attendance. I'm not advocating cheating, but I am sure that you're better off declining an advance on your own rather then in the company of your mate.
6. Don't get an attitude with event employees, hotel staff, or security. It's a crazy ass weekend and everybody is trying to accommodate everybody. Try to take into consideration the daunting task everyone is attempting to deal with to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
7. Tip your bartenders! That doesn't need further explanation.
8. Bring enough money to cover your own expenses. This is another rule that I can't stress enough. With it being a holiday weekend, things are going to cost a little more than normal. Make sure your budget can accommodate you so that you don't have to impede on anyone else's finances to support your fun.
9. Don't leave your drink unattended for any reason! I had a friend fall victim to someone slipping a substance into his drink which had us rushing him to the hospital. If you put your drink down and walk away from it for any reason, consider it a wash and just purchase another one.
10. Have fun, be responsible, and make it a weekend to remember!

1st of all I worked that even I dont know where u were but the bartenders{none of them blk or gay 4 that matter} had seriosu attitude! And then to make fun of guest in a language they knew the attendees wouldnt understand was outragous!U r only suppsoe to tip for good service and good attitude none of that was present during the event! SO to make comments like tip the bartenders.. well that should tell u something about the bartenders. U ever think of the fact that many were aware of {we want your money not ur right to spend it} We deserve good service and attitude just like ur trying to tell us to have in ur article!

SIZZLE SUCKS BIG TIME. Its way tooo many other events going on in miami that weekend as well. Its traffic everywhere. Me and my friends could not even get on south beach because of the traffic. Second you have to search through all of the straight and women out to find the family. 3rd if you love a overly fem guy then you will have great success at sizzle, because actaul boys are very hard to spot out and find. Its more wannabe women than actaul women. The beach is highly overrated. It was not orgianized at all. There was no directions to where the main event was to be held and no entertainment out on the beach as well. Even thou it wasa nude beach it was more old and out of shape white men naked than anything. all in all sizzle is a huge waste of money....so dont belive the hype, paying 30 dollars for a club that has the wackest music is just a waste.

Washington,DC's Black Pride was great. The Convention Center (with singer Monica) was wonderful. Didn't get a chacne to see Patti at Club Love, but my bois told me that she was great and the club was packed.
Promoter Darryl Wilson overcharged for some of the clubs, so I avoided some of his events, except for the great Black Gay Cookout at Fort Dupont Park off Minnesota Avenue on Sunday. Thousands were there and it was hotttt.

Furthermore, I've encountered just as many gold-digging gay men as black women in my lifetime! And who's more antagonistic, bossy and "bitchy" than a fem gay man?! Answer - no one is! Tell me where can you go and get #1 Billboard Artist (DJ Unk), an Oscar winner (Jennifer Hudson), a grammy award winner (Patti LaBelle), and a club that has hosted an US Presidential campaign fundraiser and all most every major Hip-Hop and R&B artist that have been out for $25- $35?
And then turn around on Monday and enjoy a park that cost damn near $20,000 for free. Free food, free entertainment, DC national security, the best sound system (not a karayoke machine), a dance tent.
Wow yall need to get a good grip!

Also, that's why there are some many women not married, because this is where all are black men are.Either their in the closet or going to the gym to get in shape for a man trying to act like their not gay, when actually you are.It's a shame that all these fine ass men want each other, what happen to our black men? Have you always been gay or is it just you got caught up in beacuse of the hype. It use to be a white men thing, but I guess times have changed. There are more ethnicities of women than just black, so why doesn't a potentially gay man date an Asian woman before choosing to be gay? Strange that the city of Miami welcomed the black gay community.
Most of the people with power in Miami are Cuban and are usually nasty towards blacks in that city.
The black unemployment rate is off the chain. Most blacks down there dont speak spanish, so things are tough for them. Miami-Dade mayor Carlos Alvarez is a known racist (black hater) down in those parts.

I have a Husband, a BLACK MAN, who I treat very well and have been treating well for over 7 years. No bossiness. bitchiness, and definitely no gold -digging. I came to the table with my own dividends, as well as he.

Interesting comments, but this is what happens when you ask gossip blogs to link your posts about black gay men. The hateful str8s come out.
This blog has become disappointing. Originally, I admired the pro-faith coverage and activism. However, it's become a more or less a bulletin board for Clik. Yes, that magazine sucks, it doesn't send subscriptions, it's more models and voguing queens than anything about black gay culture.
It's very obvious why black gay bloggers aren't more critical. Most are bought with a byline, a few dollars (very few), and a VIP card to Sizzle or a faux "award" event. Look across the black gay blogosphere. It's very obvious that the two most prominent black gay bloggers refuse to play that game. That left Dwight and Clik running after the D-list.

I try not to make it a habit to respond to the comments that are left on my blog but in this case I have no choice. I've sat and read the outrageous, uninformed, misguided, and homophobic comments by the readers who were linked to my site from mediatakeout.com.
FYI I did not ask the powers that be at mediatakeout to link this story. I don't have a single relationship with anyone that runs that site, nor do I wish to align myself with the nature of the content on mediatakeout.com .
There is so much that I want to say in response to what's been said regarding Black gay men and the Sizzle event, but I will save my thoughts for an official post early next week.
What I will say now is because of the homophobia that exists in the Black community and the rest of the world is exactly why I live my life as an openly gay man and why I created this blog.
My blog is about uplifting and empowering same gender loving people to walk in their truth. If you visit my blog consistently then you know the overall tone is the exact opposite of what has transpired over the past few days as a result of the mediatakeout.com traffic.
If nothing else their rude and hateful comments are a reminder that there is still work to be done. Sexual orientation starts with the brain and not the genitals, Black men aren't turning to each other because Black women are too bossy, and contrary to popular belief every gay man is not on the DL.
I remember a time when a certain group of people believed Blacks were sub-human, incapable of learning, and ordained to be slaves according to sc ripture. We didn't believe these stereotypes were true for Blacks then why are we so quick to accept these stereotypes for gays? Think about it.

Being an ex-wife of a DL brotha' and the mother of his two sons. Let me tell you first hand he didnt leave me because I was Bitchy or money hungry. I stood by this man when he finally step out of the closet. I was there for him when his family and friends told him he was a damn disgrace, and shame, and wrote his black ass off. I was there for him in court when the judge didnt think it would be in the best interest of our sons for him to have visitation rights. I was the one who stood and let the courts know he was a great father. BUT! when it was all said and done divorce papers signed he stopped coming to see the kids, stop being involved in their everyday life, and stopped supporting them financially. For the first two years I was ok with this I was giving him time to get his life together. Until the day he told our 11 year old son his new "man" required all of his time and his money! What type of shit is that? So I did what any woman would do black, white, purple, or yellow. I took his sorry ass to court to get what belonged to my children. Thats when I became the money hungry black woman. Well I'll tell you what. Take care of your damn families and you wouldn't have this damn problem. Now I make sure everytime he gets money and get my cut. MY SONS will want for nothing.

I came here, directed from mediatakeout.com, to really see the hi-lites from The Sizzle. I see here that someone made a comment about "Why Black men are loving Dick?" or something to that effect. Ok. As a black women, I feel that there are enough men to go around. The same way it has been stated that black men go to other races because of some of the "character flaws" of black women, we can also take that same approach. Look outside the race box. I personally am not offended by the comments because it is not me they are speaking of. If you feel you are a higher caliber of black women, as stated by G.A.P., then there is no need to make equally ignorant comments to these men. Why do you want to be with a gay man? Black, white, asian, hispanic, or whatever. Gay men date other gay men. That is it...
On another note....You guys look like you had a great time, but I did hear from an acquaitance that these events can get pricey. This Fish says..."Work it Gurls!" They were doing it on that video.
Remember all ya'll, we are all Black after the other labels are torn away. If they reinstated slavery tomorrow we would all be pickin' cotton together, GAY AND STRAIGHT!!!!! Switchin' down da field together!!!!

These Black Gay Pride events can become pricey. The big city BLACK PRIDE events can break the bank (Miami,DC,Atlanta).
Greedy promoters like Darryl Wilson (DC) and Dwight Powell (Miami) are living large because they charge insane nightclub entrance fees.
The WHITE GAY AKA GENERAL PRIDES are much cheaper to attend. You know blacks alway do this kinda stuff. It's like going to the Korean owned store in the hood instead of going to that store owned by your mother's friend Miss Mabel Jackson. You know the products in Miss Mabel's store are gonna cost more, so you go next door to the Koreans because it is cheaper.

Miami was the bomb!! Those tips were on the ball. I had no problem meeting several attractive masculine men, I don't know where some people were looking. The venues(clubs) were all very spacious and first rate. Me and my boys had a really good time and will def be back.

There are a vast majority of us black women out here, that are no way like you describe. Also if you keep hanging around the same women all the time who have no home training, high school dropout, aren't independant, and think the only way to get their point across is to yell and curse you out. Then thats your fault. Don't go labelling us, because of a few bad experiences.And NO getting child support for the right reasons is in no way shape or form being money hungry. Get yours!!

I read some of the comments that were made here and I am appaulled by what I read from the Black women. I expected more out of you.
Yes, the so called "DL" Phenomenon has gotten out of control but the truth of the matter is don't blame the honest gay men for all of your encounters with the dl brothers because we're not the same! and I will not and I refuse to apologize for being who GOD called me to be!
Yes, some gay men are bossy and bitchy, but so are women. So how can you try to compare the two? We all have our moments and because of the lack of education about being a black gay men, thus results the posting of comments of sheer ignorance on this blog.

My beef isn't with gay men, per se. I mean, we all sin, right?
My real concern is the state of the Black community. I wouldn't even care if it were white gay men we were talking about. Why don't our Black men feel obligated to preserve our heritage? It seems like most Black men are out for themselves nowadays. I just don't get it. As long as they get the fast money and instant gratification, that's all they care about.
It saddens me to see our Black men in such a state.
I wish I could speak more positivley about Black men, but it seems like they are all dead, in jail, GAY, or with white women.
Just give them an opportunity, and they will turn it to shit! I hate to say that, but it's true.

Not to mention the way they speak about Black women! This is a total disgrace.
I have NEVER seen a race of people devalue their women the way Black men do.

Wow, it is so interesting to read all of these passionate postings. For all the negativity and differences posted, the core of what everyone has to say is the exact same....PAIN. Its really sad that whether you are a "bitter black bitch", "a trite ass queen" a lost 'DL' boy, etc. that what you fail to see is your own light. For those who didn't have a good time at Sizzle, I'm sorry to hear that. Funny I had clear information on every event; no problems getting to South Beach; and especailly attentive bartenders. AND my attendance was a last minute decision where I had no idea of what events were planned. Instead of blaming your bad time on exterior factors, look within and see what it is in your mindset that draws such negative experiences to you. I'm sure Sizzle is not the only bad time you have. Raise your level of consciousness! As for the bitter angry women who don't have a clue what it is to be a same gender loving black male, RELAX! Hating our beauty will not resolve your coochie cobwebs. Embrace your own beauty...there are straight men out there for you. We need to be in this journey together! And please stop trying to attribute our sexual orientation to some deviant condition of our past. I mean, when Uncle Ray Ray was banging you at 13 and you aborted that two headed baby, did it make you a lesbian? Puh-leeze. Celebrate your light! Don't hate us because we celebrate ours! Its time for all of us to release the pain and start to live. I have never had sex with my mother.
I have had sex with young black women and the smell, attitude and money grubbing attitude was so bad, I had 2 choices to make.
1) Go with white women who usually have nice bodies, better attitudes,good hygeine and their own money.
2) Fine black men with hot bodies, great faces (like the ones above) and good jobs.
I went with #2 instead of the fat black bitches.

This is some SICK shit. Now we all now that some women and men have issues with homosexuality. We have all been in church but someone made a comment about black women having better bodies and attitudes bullshit.
