The one name actress LaChanze walked away with the 2006 Tony award for best actress in a musical for her performance as Ceiley in the new broadway musical The Color Purple. She was in the company of such seasoned performers as Chita Rivera and the predicted shoe in for the award Sutton Foster from The Drowsy Chaperone.

She was just as shocked as I was when her name was announced ! But it was an amazing feeling to see this beautiful sista live out her dream for so many African-American theater performers who long to just receive a nomination.

I had the pleasure of seeing her in Ragtime back in 1999 when she replaced the multiple Tony winner Audra McDonald.
Her talent is to be admired. Now she finds herself in the company of other great black actress like Jennifer Holiday, Lilias
White, and Heather Headley. Congratulations sista you won one for us all !
