Black Church Opens Its Doors to Gays

It seems that the city of Boston is years ahead of the rest of the country in terms LGBT equality and religious inclusion.Rev. Martin McLee, a black minister at Union United Methodist Church in the South End of Boston has decided to opens his doors to host an interfaith Pride service. This wouldn't be such a big deal if Rev. Martin wasn't apart of the Black Ministerial Alliance, a group that has been strong vocal opponents of LGBT equality. Rev. Martin D. McLee, said in an interview. "Gay folk have always been in the black church and the white church -- that's not new -- but we don't require folk to pretend that they're not who they are." Rev Martin and his congregation have also planned a gospel brunch for black gays and lesbians in town for Pride weekend.

Black churches, locally and nationally, are often conservative on issues of sexuality. In Boston, the Black Ministerial Alliance has repeatedly lent its name to efforts to overturn same-sex marriage, which has been legal in Massachusetts since 2004. McLee said he was not trying to send a message to other black clergy by agreeing to host the service. "I don't want this to be divisive, and I don't choose to be a part of side-taking," he said. "this is just one church living out its journey.

I believe Rev. McLee's decision to have an inclusive congregation exemplifies true christian behavior. It's good to know that as LGBT people who believe in God and desire to worship with other believers; when one door closes on you there's always another door that will open and welcome you in.

  1. It is interesting you said, " Rev. McLee made the decision..." and because of "ministers" making these decisions, not upholding the word of God they are charged to preach, the church is violated by allowing things inside the house of God, which He have rejected and dismissed. Yes, homosexuals are welcomed in the house of God, but their sin, actions and works of homosexuality has never been accepted or approved by God. There is NO PLACE where God ever accepted a vile lifestyle.

I am amazed BET will pick some of the weak minded, unfounded "preachers" to perpetuate this filth. Why don't BET seek after Bishop Jakes, Eddie Long, Paula White, Fred K.C.Price, Bill Winston, John Eckhardt, Chuch Pierce, or other well-grounded, pastors who live and breathe the true bible they preach. "Bishop" Bernard Jordan...a fake, BIG TIME!

  3. @Darian: I thought i was the only one that notice that LOL! He will probably make a excuse for it. Was he high, or drunk? Something had to be wrong when he was typing all that crap.

@Captain: Note: For those like you who thinks they have been cured, heal, delivered, cleansed, brainwash, etc. You might want to restrict your free time on gay blogs, since your out of the so-called lifestyle. What's the point? There are 70% of black women that are single. Captain you're free[whatever that means], you could have a wife, kids, and a dog. But you're so occupied on gay blogs. Attacking us, will NOT solve your self-impose hell you have created! You simply cannot pray away the gay, it doesn't work that way!

What is a gay lifestyle? Lifestyle simply means the way a person lives. I'm sure Darian, and mine lifestyle is different. All gays don't live the same way, the same for straights.

God accepts and approves of our sexuality since God did the creating, and modern biology is showing that. I know you hate who you are attracted to, and you're even more hate that it won't go away. If GOd had a problem with it, it would have went away. But t didn't because like scientific studies say it needs no cure, and since it can't be prayed away because it needs no pray.

So continue to visit gay blogs as your hobby to attack us, but the fact is YOU'RE STILL GAY!

  4. I just combined comments from two posts into one response...

Further, God created us all, I agree. However, he didn't create the sin we get involved with and within salvation (For those who are in Christ) we leave those things we once did that never please God, which homosexuality never pleases God. If He was pleased with it, then the acceptance of homosexuality would be found throughout the course of time and recorded in the BIBLE where the inspriation of God is found.

I disagree that this is homophobic nonsense. I guess that is the typical homosexuals response when their lifestyle is challenged and it is typical for homosexuals to attack peoples personal affairs when someone speak out against homosexuality and the acts thereof. Just becaue someone don't agree with the gay lifestyle, doesn't mean their homophobic. Yes, you can press and lobby to be accepted into society and push for legistlation, but homosexuality will always be rejected, even by God, for all time.

In response to Injustice MH- I think God has a problem with adultery, murder, lying, using His name and vein, but people still do it and God hasn't punished them...yet.

Again, it amazes me how people SAY they love God and are Christians, but don't believe in the power of God to do the impossible. Homosexuals always want to put God in a box and say what He can or cannot do. God can do anything. What you're saying is that God is not powerful enought to hear the prayers of people struggling with homosexuality, seeking deliverance. I guess these things are dumb to your thinking because homosexuals operate out of their carnal mind. Remember, carnal mind (Your intellect) will never comprehend spiritual things, and this just proves that Apostle Paul was right.

  5. Slavery has been accepted throughout the course of time AND in the Old and New Testament. Paul even instructs slaves to obey thier masters, even when said masters treated them cruelly and in inhumane ways.

According to your logic Captain this means that God approves of slavery, even the most cruel and vicious forms, for all time.

  6. Kneil...that's not my logic.

  7. @ Captain: "homosexuality never pleases God. If He was pleased with it, then the acceptance of homosexuality would be found throughout the course of time and recorded in the BIBLE where the inspriation of God is found."

It sure sounds like your logic.
