From executive producer Princess Banton-Lofters of The Real Housewives of Atlanta comes 'Tha Life Atlanta', a new reality show featuring five openly gay black men living in Atlanta.
The cast made their first public appearance last weekend at Club Europe in Atlanta and BE Entertained Magazine was on hand and got the scoop.
"While this definitely steps outside of the typical “heels & handbags” gay stereotype, it’ll leave lots of people talking about how they get down in Atlanta. BE ready for the drama, fierce altercations, and a bunch a FABULOUSNESS!," writes Jason Dinsmore of BE Entertained.
"They all come from different walks of life including doctors, dancers, and professional clubbers, but the one thing that they all have in common (BEsides BEing gay males) is that they are all extra FAB!,"he adds.
Well let's just hope that Tha Life Atlanta veers from the train wreck of LOGO's The A-List because once this show hits the air the entire country will be watching and black gay men will be judged accordingly.

Pleeez lawd, don't let these brothas be a bunch of squealing females. I'm optimistic, but I cannot bare watch a black version of the A List. I know stereotypes is what the public want, but pleeez, pretty pleez show me some regular brothas; we masculine gay men can have drama too -- just in a very masculine way. This is my prayer lawd!

I really don't understand why every time Black Gay Men get on TV there always has to be this "fabulous, glitz and glamor type" That's cool, if that is who you are. My question is, where are the regular Black Gay Men when it comes to these shows? Those of us who go to work, come home, drink a beer, and call it a nite. Seriously, Im not interested in Fashion, Beyonce is not God to me, and I shop at Old Navy and TJ Maxx. Yet, I'm still a proud, out, Black Gay Man. There are plenty just like me, but we never get seen on these shows. Where is the diversity? From the pictures, there is none in this show at all. Someone in the cast claims to be a "Professional Club Kidd" WTF? Really? This is some BS...

I happen to be the one in the show that claims to be a professional club kid, but maybe I should explain. I started my own event production company in 2005 in which my events are mainly held at club venues across the country. So where as you took that to mean that I was in the club partying, dancing, and getting drunk in the club, that is not the case. The people in the club are donating to my bills. And for the record I do not just throw parties at clubs. I create events, celebrity packed, red carpet events... there is a difference. How I choose to title it is up to me, but the money is just as green as yours that comes from your nine to five. When I am not working I am also the guy that is at home not drinking on beer (because Hennessy is my drink of choice). What this cast represent is a group of professional business men (most of which own their own company or companies) how they choose to express their lives on camera is up to them, but again their money is green and they can use it as they choose, I’m sure you'd agree.

Why is it that whenever glitz, femininity, grace, and glamor is involved, every MASCULINE queen screams "Oh, no; why aren't we being represented?" Why is it that you all deem yourselves "REGULAR, Black men" (I guess effeminate men are irregular --- NEWSFLASH---homophobes deem us all UNNATURAL and inferior) and have the nerve to stereotype those of us who embrace our feminine energy, our truth, as listeners of Beyonce, Lady Gaga, etc or fashionistas. You all disgust me with your ignorance and only perpetuate the infighting the Black gay community has yet to overcome. You also foster the stereotypical image of gay men I have come to find utterly unappealing in the heterosexual community. It is so silly and stupid.
Also, when did "squealing" become a female trait rather than one EITHER sex can exhibit? Argh. That's why you all do not have a show. You all are ignorant. Worst than the DL girls, if you ask me.

I do not think that any gay show from the outset is going to satisfy the entire black gay community. One the one hand, I have felt since the first promo of Tha Life that EVERY one of the characters were not likable and were somewhat stereotypical finger poppers, but my problem centers more around the values they are promoting. This is where the other hand rises. What if the show is a black gay version of the Atlanta House Wives? The point is that all people have different sides. Will the human side of these men come out? That is my concern. When people say Atlanta is being represented, there are already enough stereotypes that exist, but no one needs to think that every gay black man is "very rich" and running through sexcapades to get to the top.
