Could this be a sign that hip-hop is shifting from an era of ugly homophobia? Probably not. But we have to give emerging rapper Kid Cudi his props for not freaking out and going all Busta Rhymes on a male fan who rushed the stage during a recent concert and planted a wet kiss on the "Day & Nite" rapper.

The fan was promptly escorted off the stage by Kid Cudi's security detail but the handsome rapper didn't react violently but chose to remain professional and continue on with his set.

The hip-hop website World Star Hip Hop.com has footage of the incident and as expected the commenters are railing against Kid Cudi for not "protecting his manhood" and responding like the average homophobic thug.

I don't know if Kid Cudi is gay nor do I care but his reaction should serve as an example to the rest of his colleagues when dealing with gay fans; or at least the over zealous type. Can you imagine if a gay fan had rushed the stage to kiss Busta Rhymes?

Thanks for posting this, Darian. I don't think going on stage and randomly kissing the performer is ok (whether you're a guy or a girl), but I really like how he handled the situation.
It gives me another reason to like the kid. ;-)
Unfortunately, it seems like not everybody shares the same opinion over at worldstarhiphop.com

The guy who kissed the performer appears to be a white guy. The performer's musicians appear to be white and the audience appeared to be mostly, if not entirely, white. I'm pretty sure that if the kisser, and the venue, had been black it would have been a different story. The rapper wasn't about to go "postal" on a white person at a white venue.

I appreciate how Kid Cudi reacted to the kisser. However, with regards to this guy thinking it is ok to just walk up a kiss another man, is exactly why SOME people get bashed and what causes some people to freak out about gay people. I believe in equal rights and the whole nine and am down for gay rights but that is not a license to act a fool.

^^ TOTALLY AGREE WITH THIS STATEMENT.

Unfortunately amongst us as blacks, we show no mercy on each other (although in any case this incident was wrong entirely) but the way he handled it and his composure I believe wouldn't have been this good if the venue, crowd, and offender was black.

@ Smooth & Elg:

You two are so right. If the kisser had been black, all h$ll would have broken out. The kisser appears straight and drunk to me.

Color me not impressed with Kid Cudi, especially since I had never heard of him until now.

His actions do not merit a gay pride parade. I wish the kisser had been black. Kid Cudi would be facing protests from the HRC and every other rights group.
