The 41st Annual Image Awards aired last Friday night and newcomer Gabourey Sidibe took home the award for best actress for her dynamic performance as Clarice "Precious" Jones in the critically-acclaimed Lee Daniels film 'Precious'.

Sidibe has received a slew of nominations for her portrayal of the abused HIV- positive Harlemite including an Aacademy Award nomination, but the NAACP Image award is her first win.

"It is an honor to be nominated but it is so awesome to win!", exclaimed Sidibe. "I love winning!"

"I wanna thank my wonderful director. I walked into his office in jeans and sneakers and he saw a glamorous dress and heels. He saw a star and I can't thank him enough".

Lee Daniels, the openly gay director and creative force behind the film also took home the award for best picture and ended the show on an interesting note when he refused to end his acceptance speech despite the music cueing him to wrap it up.

Get into Sidibe's moving acceptance speech below (which took me forever to find).
