And this my friends is a perfect example of why marriage equality will be won in DC and eventually across the nation. The arguments against gay marriage simply aren't making sense any more, especially when people like D.C. resident and "Christian" Earnestine Copeland are making the arguments.


Copeland was given three minutes yesterday during a scheduled marriage equality hearing to voice her opposition against the pending legislation and used the opportunity to "preach" about demons, immorality, and Sodom & Gomorrah before going into a tirade about being fired from her job. Hmmm...I wonder if her insanity played a part in her being fired.


According to blogger and D.C. activist Michael Crawford, who can be seen in the background of the video, the breakdown of testimony heard yesterday was 81 for equality, 15 against, and 8 no-shows.


Let's hope Copeland and her ilk continue to make our case for us. Get into the video below:

I watched the video and couldn't understand what she was saying.

Whatever her issues are, I have no sympathy for her whatsoever. Her issues are her issues, not mine. One of the things oppressed people should NEVER do is feel "sorry" for their oppressors, no matter how pathetic they are. Do oppressors EVER feel "sorry" for those they are oppressing?

If this woman lost her job, she obviously will never get AND KEEP another one. It wouldn't matter to me if she ended up broke and homeless. She may be in this situation already. We (LGBT people) should be just as merciless to our enemies as they are towards us. It's the way the real world operates.

I think you are right. She just needed somewhere to voice her frustrations about losing her job. I feel for her.

However, the arguments using the Bible really have no bearing in a public debate about marriage equality. The separate of church and state is clear. I'm excited each time a new jurisdiction passing legislation to support marriage equality. I happen to like that term better than gay marriage anyhow. Equality applies equally to everybody, and for each jurisdiction that passes laws to support it, we are one step closer to universal equality nationwide.

I also found Sista Earnestine to be very funny and entertaining! She could be on Saturday Night Live or Madd TV with that routine.


I don't think even those who don't support Gay Marriage want to be associated with her ignorant ass. I think she's one of those"church ladies" that gets an erection anytime she feels someone in her church commits a sin before God. She probably reaches orgasms every time she speaks out against sinners.


I think it would be great if a film maker (like Michael Moore) put together a number of these clips and let people see how ridiculous they sound in using their holier-than-thou ways as their defense and go into each of their background and show us their sins, adultery, fornication and the list goes on.

Who was the woman cosigning in the background? Also we have to realize that there needs to be a balance between the spirit and the intellect. Bibically she knew what she wanted to pull out however, her ignorance in speaking, and social issues will cause her points to never be taken seriously. That's my problem with a lot of the "black" churches, so deep in the word that basic academic skills were never learned. She could barely format a sentence. I was over the video when she started calling everyone a deamon. What happened to the scripture "With love and kindness have I drawn thee." She was so offensive and Im sure she thought that it was in the name of "God".
I am going to stop now because this can take a different turn.

Jason drove it home with this! I agree 200%. As a Christian I understand the logic that many people who are against same sex marriage are using. While many of their points are strong (obviously because its working) the ONE thing they ALL fail to realize is that they are NOT in a position of power or authority to block someone's ability and range to make a FREE WILL DECISION in matters and decisions of their lives.
What’s sad is that many of these people who feel they have the power to dictate uses the most asinine and far reaching examples to try and make their points that it makes their arguments very weak.
David Catania was comin’ at them at this meeting (Darian, I hope you post the clips between him and Bishop Harry Jackson). Boy, when I tell you that Catania was comin’ back at ole boy with some real knowledge and truth, I was just shoutin’!
In my opinion, this bill is crafted so good that really there is no argument against it (or at least one that will justify keeping its passage)
The language is simple: IF you are religious or church affiliated and do not wish to conduct or participate in Marriage Equality based upon your beliefs, then don’t!
BUT…… you cannot block or stop people WHO WANT TO MARRY from doing so at the ballot box or a majority just because “you don’t like it”.
Thank goodness people are starting to realize that these arguments against same sex marriage are really doing nothing but hurting their cause.

Taking them out of context and not having any knowledge of the culture at the time it was written and the meaning of words makes you ignorant of the facts.
