This is beyond sad. Almost exactly a week after Carl Walker Hoover Jr. was laid to rest, Jaheem Herrera, an 11 year old Atlanta resident has taken his life in the same manner after enduring constant anti-gay bullying at his Dekalb County school.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports:

On Thursday afternoon, after returning home from Dunaire Elementary School, Jaheem quietly went into his room and hanged himself. His 10-year-old sister, Yerralis, also a fifth-grader, discovered Jaheem’s dead body.

Jaheem was bullied relentlessly, his family said. The family knew the boy was a target, but until his death they didn’t understand the scope.

“They called him gay and a snitch,” his stepfather said. “All the time they’d call him this.”

In an interview with WSB-TV, the boy’s mother, Masika Bermudez, also said her son was being bullied at school. She said she had complained to the school.

She said she asked him about the bullying Thursday when he came home from school and he denied it. She sent him to his room to calm down. It was the last time she would see him alive.

Bermudez told WSB she talked to Jaheem’s best friend about the situation last week.

“He said, ‘Yes ma’am. He told me that he’s tired of everybody always messing with him in school. He is tired of telling the teachers and the staff, and they never do anything about the problems. So, the only way out is by killing himself,’” Bermudez told WSB.

DAMN! My only question is....When are we as Gay Black Men gonna stand up and teach the younger generation? The ones before us didn't teach us much (Except a few of us). The need is the call! In order for us to see a chage we need to get involved in these childrens lives very early. We need to carry ourselves righteously and humbled at the lords feet and impact our world aroound us. There is no excuse for this. This week I am going on a fast to seek a solution. yA'LL I WAS AT THEIR POINT MANY OF TIMES AS A CHILD AND ADULT! SURELY THERE IS SOMETHING WE CAN DO IN PREVENTING ACTS SUCH AS THIS! tHEY'RE JUST CHILDREN!

I agree with Son of Destiny...but the thing is most of us weren't taught ourselves so we are leaving the young ones on their own in the hopes that they get it...only they won't because this is a whole lot of stuff to handle...hearing about another case of suicide due to bullying makes me feel so powerless and what makes it worst for me is that I know that this young man felt what I am feeling times one million + infinity...the tears I am shedding as I write this comment, I hope can only somehow someway manifest itself into some positive energy that will touch the souls of other young men out there and give them some sort of peace in the midst of the storm...

In response to thegayte-keeper....There is something you can do! Evverything you wished someone wold have taught you and For all the time you wished someone was there for you...You do just that! You have the tools within you. May the peace of God Which surpasses all understanding dwell within you. Go forth and be free of your past and lead the ones behind us to victory! This will be a start of a revolt which will turn into a revolution which will then be lives full of revival.

ADVOCACY FOR BULLYING IS DEFINITELY A START. When I get in my career as a professor I will find time to teach younger children about bullying and the consequesences to it.

Hm, Can there be a task force coalition to educate kids on bullying and the effects of it.
