"You homo niggas getting AIDS in the ass"-Lil Wayne from the track Go DJ
So this is what music consumers supported in 2008 and will most likely reward during the Grammy's next month? I don't listen to Lil Wayne's music so obviously I'm a little late hearing this new low in homophobic rap lyrics.
Fellow blogger Queer Kid of Color and his co-host Les discuss the Grammy nominated Lil Wayne's sick prescription of AIDS to "deserving homos" in his hit song that I'm sure kept the gays on the dance floor for hours at the club grinding to the beat but ignoring the lyrics. Discuss amongst yourselves.

I totally get your point with this post. However just to play devil's advocate, how can this be considered homophobic when it is indeed true? In my opinion in order for something or a statement to be considered homophobic it must be steeped in fallacy and promote one-sided/debasing stereotypes.
Despite his word choice what Little Wayne said is indeed true, one can not ignore the simple fact that the HIV/AIDS infection rate is skyrocketing, especially among our young SGL brothers. Furthermore, one can not ignore that while a considerable portion of the SGL community does practice and promote safer-sex practices this is undermined by the proliferation “raw” sub culture. This glorification of “raw” sex only leads to increased instances of HIV/AIDS infections.
So with all that being said, is what Lil’ Wayne said truly homophobic or does it just remind us, as well as the hetro-world , of the sad truth that there is an heightened probability of contracting HIV/AIDS when one participates in consensual homosexual anal sex.

Admittedly, I've never heard a little Wayne song. However, after reading the previous poster's words I agree in a sense. While the lyrics are homophobic I think there is an element of truth in them.
I've always viewed hardcore hip hop as a modern form of the blues. And blues artists are always on about the turmoil and tribulation run amok in the world. With that said it is a reality that HIV/AIDS is running rampant in the black gay community.
Granted, I'll never support these rappers...But maybe those lyrics are a wake up call.

This is one more reason for me to make a total psychological break with straight black men. And don't tell me about Rev. Al's speech about homophobia in black churches several weeks ago. Lil Wayne is probably more indicative of how most straight black men think about us than Rev. Al is and y'all know it.
What do I mean by "total psychological break"? I mean that I am no longer automatically sympathetic to their "causes". For example, when I hear about the police killing a black man, I ask myself what did HE do to provoke the incident?
This psychological break is still in process. It includes not just random black men/people but relatives as well. I suppose the break won't be complete until I move to an area (or city even) where there are few black people to destroy the emotional equilibrium that I'm trying to create for myself.
Homophobia is soul depleting to its victims. Even when they don't realize it. It destroys you one piece at a time. I can see why white gays have created gay neighborhoods (gayborhoods): to get away from the most brutal aspects of homophobia.
Black gays, on the other hand, are so used to bad treatment that they try to rationalize it or explain it away. I feel that I am entitled to peace of mind and I am willing to remove myself completely from straight black people (and self-hating black gays) in order to get it.

In most major cities there were indeed Black gay neighborhood before HIV killed most of us. Unfortunately BGM unlike White gay men have not created supporting instutions that go along with the community and like it or not as one grows older one becomes emotionall and physically dependent on the Black str8 community.
And yes it hurts!
