Just a few questions.
1.Is Elizabeth Hassellback really a bit** or does she just play one on television?
2.Is Sherry Shepard really dumb enough to believe that her minister would be in danger of being arrested if he chose not to perform a same-sex marriage? The earth is round by the way Sherry.
3. Did D.L. Hughley really say he wasn't "particularly homophobic" during his interview with Dan Savage?
4.Since when did Dan Savage become the spokesperson for the black gay community?
5. Are you one of the many people who have been wondering where Keith Boykin has been during the aftermath of Prop 8?

Geewhiz! It's sometimes disturbing the lengths to which people will go to justify (and in this instance, legalize) their prejudices. As a Black and gay man I am sensitive to issues of racism and prejudice. I guess a lot of Black folk don't feel the same.
And can someone explain how you could work in show business and entertainment and be homophobic? I mean the field is littered with lesbians and gays. Though Hughley claims no particular homophobia it's obvious what his views are. I think homophobia is the new racism. No one wants to be called homophobic or racist. Well homophobic is as homophobic does.

1.Is Elizabeth Hassellback really a bit** or does she just play one on television?
yes, hassellsack (as i like to call her, for "sack o' shit") is a biotch. she has been the moment that she stepped foot on the show. she feels like she is the authority on everything, but she is simply just a mealy mouth heffer!
2.Is Sherry Shepard really dumb enough to believe that her minister would be in danger of being arrested if he chose not to perform a same-sex marriage? The earth is round by the way Sherry.
you answered your own question. this woman tried to argue about how do we know the earth is round...therefore, anything else she says is severely suspect!
3. Did D.L. Hughley really say he wasn't "particularly homophobic" during his interview with Dan Savage?
DL is a a$$...NEXT
4.Since when did Dan Savage become the spokesperson for the black gay community?
this cat like came out of nowhere...i read a story about him over at auntjemimasrevenge blog and was immediately disgusted. i'm putting him in the a$$ category with DL

We need allies in this STRUGGLE. Stop critizing people for being intelligent and knowing the black struggle. ( This has not always been the case. ) There needs to be discussion about (1) scholarship of the bible, (2) civil rights definitions, (3) separation between theology and democrcy (4) fellow brother and sister love.

Dan Savage is a racist jerk. Did you see him on the Cobert Report? This ignorant jerk said "I've been held down by a few black men in my past." He was saying this in a joking nature to lighten the racist load. What a jerk. And, why is a sex columnist featured as a gay rights advocate? He is a joke (and a jerk).

Dan Savage said, in response to a question from the interviewer, "I've been held down by a few black men in the past".
How does that statement make Dan a racist? Is it the fact that he got hot and sweaty with "a few" black men or is it the fact that he admitted it or both?
We black gay men don't own each other, you know. I'm sure the "few" black men in question wanted Dan's white azz. And lets assume the black men were consenting adults who knew exactly what they were doing. So what's the problem?
Are some black gay men jealous of the fact that Dan had sex with "a few" black men?

I had an epiphany the other night. Most of the arguements used against equal marriage are based on lies, so this has to mean that we are very close to striking down all of these ammendments and other laws that are used to hurt gay people. It would be one thing if our opponents had actual facts to back up their arguements, but what proof do they have that gay people getting married hurts straight people or children? What proof do they have that ministers will be forced to perform marriages or that they will the thrown in jail for speaking out against homosexuality. And how can they say that marriage is only based on religion when there are so many state and federal strings attached to marriage, and when a marriage isn't legal without getting a marriage license, which is given by the government, and not the church.
Yes, Elizabeth is a bit**, and Sherry is dumb as dirt. Neither of them are smart enough to do their research before they open their mouths. But that's okay, since they help our cause more than they hurt it. If Opponents of equal marriage keep using tactis like these, it's no way that we can lose.
As far as Dan Savage goes, he's an attention whore. He will say anything that he thinks will get him on tv. The same goes for Jasmyne Cannick. While both can be entertaining at times, and both are entitled to their opinions, we should never let them get away with saying that they speak for us. These two, unlike Elizabeth and Sherry, are hurting our cause.
We should never rely on anyone else to speak for us. I don't know where Keith is, but frankly, he's done more than his share to bring attention to the problems that GLBT people face. He doesn't owe anyone anything. I've felt proud to see so many gay and straight people speak out against prop 8. This movement needs to continue. We've sat on the sideline too long and let too many injustices happen without speaking out. We've relied on a handful of people to speak for us, when it would have been more effective for us to stand with them and let our voices be heard and our numbers be seen. Yes, Keith Boykin has done a lot, but think how much more he could have done if he had more help and support from Black gays and lesbians.

Very well said Cadence. I agree with all of your points.

I think Dan Savage got on a lot of talk shows because he is a "safe, media-savvy gay white boy" that the media feels comfortable with.
Also, he fueled a lot of this "Blacks and gays art fighting" with his problematic blogpost the day after the election on black homophobia being worse than white gay racism.
I think he did a reasonable job of handling the questions on these shows.
I believe Keith Boykin has made a conscious effort to say no to the invitations to appear on TV as a "black gay activist" and give the next generation a chance.
