Many of you may already be aware of Father Geoffrey Farrow and the courageous stance he took last Sunday from the pulpit of the Saint Paul Newman Center in Fresno, California against Proposition 8, the in initiative that would eliminate the right for same- sex couples to wed in the state. The story originally broke on Monday and was a hot topic on countless blogs and news websites. Not only did Father Farrow defy direct orders from his Bishop to encourage his congregation to support the proposition but he also came out as a gay man on the same day.

In his homily, Farrow points out that "what most Catholics hear about being gay or lesbian in their parish church is silence." I know that these words will cost me dearly. But to not to speak them would rob gay and lesbian people not only of their civil rights, but of their human dignity as well."

I felt compelled to post his entire homily hear for you to read after I received it via e-mail on yesterday. Don't let the length of it scare you away, it's a must read.

Read Father Farrow's homily here.

It is so painful for me to think that other people have to live their lives in shame, hiding and being afraid to be who the truly are, wasting their time being unhappy, wasting the precious life that GOD has given them. Just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes. I wish someone can make me understand why and how they can hate someone simply because that person loves someone of their own gender. Christians quote the bible to demonise love between people of the same sex and though I am a Christian too I cannot find it in my heart to do the same. I just don't know how to. Or perhaps I am not a real Christian?
