The wait is almost over for fans of the new black gay film Finding Me. For months the director Roger Omeus Jr. has been teasing fans with short clips of the movie and behind the scenes footage of the cast on YouTube. But if you're planning on making the trip to D.C. this Memorial Day Weekend the wait to see Finding Me will be officially over as the movie will make it's world premiere during the annual Black Gay Pride Celebration.

The official trailer has been released and for the first time you'll get to hear dialogue and become more familiar with the characters and the plot. I'm excited about this film and will definitely support it. Check out the official website here to see when Finding Me will be playing in your town and get into the trailer below.

Good news for fans of The DL Chronicles. The hit television series has been renewed for a second season on here!, the premium gay cable television network.

The DL Chronicles is the first television series to explore black gay and bisexual men and the so-called "down low" subculture and was recently nominated for a GLAAD Media Award in the category of "Outstanding Television Movie or Mini-Series." The critically acclaimed series is written, directed and produced by partners Quincy LeNear and Deondray Gossett (MySpace) and first chatted up on Rod 2.0 in October 2005. It's a sexy show, but, more importantly it is very well written and has seamlessly made the transition from the film festival circuit to episodic television.

Apparently the second season will approach some of the hot button issues in the black gay community, such as "a high school student’s newfound gay relationship and its effects on his homophobic father, a reverend who questions his sexual identity and religious beliefs upon meeting a handsome stranger, and an interracial love story about two guys from different sides of the tracks." Sounds good and congratulations to Deondray and Quincy.

Check out a clip from episode Mark, one of my favorites from the first season below. You can also click here to watch a special discussion I hosted in Atlanta earlier this year with a panel of influential writers, activists, and musicians.

It is very difficult for me to watch two grown men refusing to be themselves in their own home. They are actually afraid of some unemployed, low-life piece of black trash (I won't say what I was really thinking) who they could have easily kicked out on the street if he didn't "approve" of their relationship.

No wonder black gay men are considered cowards. If this is any indication of how most of us are, in 2008 no less, then we deserve all the contempt we receive.

White gay men are fighting for same-sex marriage rights and the right to adopt/raise children and we black gay men are afraid to be ourselves in our own homes. How pathetic.

I know you love the DL Chronicles but I don't care how well it's written and produced, it does not agree with me. They should have thrown the creep out. It was their house for Christ's sake. It's too late in the day for that crap.

First, Darian you asked for more readers to post comments. Long time reader, and first time poster. My philosophy as far as blogs are concerned, I’ll only post something when I have something relevant to say. And in case, I think I do.

I, like yourself, when I first heard of the DL Chronicles, had to take a deep sigh. I thought, “here we go, another scare tactic made into a film/series of only men creeping on their wives or girlfriends with other men.” Ever since Oprah thrust J.L King and his half-assed attempt of a book into the forefront, people only associate black gay men with the DL. AND, only thinking that the DL means a married man creeping on his wife or girlfriend with another man. NOT TRUE.

I clearly remember (and it’s still present today) that the a guy could be single, appearing to be straight, but is on the DL, because he fools around guys only, but doesn’t announce it. The guy may even deny it (for reasons I’ll get to in a minute). He didn’t sleep with woman, let alone pursue them, so he wasn’t tricking anyone. But he’s business was his business. Period.

After reading the review on the show, I decided to give it a chance and ordered it. I WAS/AM VERY SATIFIED AND ENTERTAINED BY THIS SERIES. Now, although it wasn’t Oscar worthy acting (a friend compared the cinematography and acting to the movie Trois), it was really good. Each episode depicted all forms of the DL (yes there are different levels). The episode Robert is similar to what I explained earlier.

Now to the reason why I decided to post for the first time, the anonymous poster. The poster oblivious wasn’t paying attention when the actor stated that he was close to his family, had a lot of people who looked up to him and was afraid of losing the connections that have made him who he is. This is the most common situation for gay men, even more so with BLACK gay men. Our community is more judgmental (which is sooooo wrong for sooooo many reasons) so its harder for BLACK gay men to not only except themselves, but to verbalize who they are to family and friends.

The main character’s cousin (FAMILY) came into town and crashed their place. For awhile the couple lived in fear because the main character was afraid that if his cousin found out, 1. he wouldn’t approve and look bad in his cousins eyes and 2. would tell the entire family and that he would disowned. None of us want to be disowned be family.

I hate how society, both gay and straight people, try to force others out of the closet. STOP IT. If the person is not creeping, lying or stealing, what difference does it make if he chooses not to let the world know he likes dick.

I could go on and on, but…

You asked for comments Darian, lol.

Thanks Jinx! Well said my brother. Make sure you check out the post on the NY Times writer. He wrote a piece on the down low in 2003 that I think you should read. There's a link at the bottom of the post.
