It's no secret that I'm a christian man who grew up going to church and still attends to this day, and I also happen to be gay. I'm realizing that christianity and the church doesn't necessarily always coincide as it should. As a matter of fact most christians are too busy "playing" church rather than being beacons of light in a chaotic world. Such is the case of Rev. Gary Simons of High Point Church in Arlington, Texas. Rev. Simons and his staff canceled the funeral of Cecil Howard Sinclair 24 hours before the service was to take place because they found out about his sexuality. Sinclair was a gay man whose brother was employed as a janitor at the church. Sinclair died last week at age 46 from an infection after surgery to prepare him for a heart transplant.

Rev. Simons said no one knew Sinclair, who was not a church member, was gay until the day before the Thursday service, when staff members putting together his video tribute saw pictures of men "engaging in clear affection, kissing and embracing. These accusations Mr. Sinclair's sister openly stated are false. Simons said the church believes homosexuality is a sin, and it would have appeared to endorse that lifestyle if the service had been held there.

This has to be the biggest bs that I've ever heard! So let's get this straight(no pun intended), we can play your piano, direct your choir, contribute financially, and in the deceased case even mop your floors, but when it's time to be laid to rest you object? Again I have to ask, what would Jesus do? It's ungodly behavior like this by church folk that turns the exact people they're trying to bring into the church away. Rev. Simons should be ashamed of himself. I'm so sick of people using religion as an excuse for their cruel and bigoted actions.

This man deserved a proper burial, if he was good enough to work in the church he should have been good enough to be buried there as well. It's obvious that gay bashing isn't just limited to the living. The good people over at High Point Church have figured out a way to do it even in death.

If you are going to write a story, please get your facts straight. The deceased man's BROTHER was a member and employee of the church.

the deceased served in the US Armed Forces in the first Gulf War to liberate Kuwait. he was both a citizen, a soldier and a patriot.

this church has dishonored both his memory and his service to the nation.

i frankly hope to wake tomorrow and see a smoking hole in the ground on the news......

It's a shame to see how a church can do such a thing. Principles or ethics, or whatever the excuse is, this is a human being! It really brings tears to my eyes when I hear these things.

I ask myself, who is the sinner here? This is not what the word teaches. To treat other human beings as beasts?

I hope the memory of this individual is not left in vain and is remembered by those who truly cared and loved him.

It's just a strong principle- you can't bring filth into the sanctuary of God.

Darian,

I'm all for the First Amendment, and all for allowing the Captain to rant on and give folks a view of the true evil that lurks in his heart.

He has, however, just referred to the body of a deceased citizen, soldier and patriot as "filth in the sanctuary" merely on the suspicion that the man was gay.

It is time for you to do the right thing. Time to act.

PONOONO- Yes, I said it! Homosexuality has NEVER been acceptable unto God. How can you bring filth into His presence and demand that He respect and bless filth?

You have NO IDEA of the level of disrespect towards God, even above the death of a gay soldier. Maybe we need to visit the term, IN GOD WE TRUST!

@ Captain... if homosexuality is such a sin and such filth why do you continue to come on here? If we are so sinful and filthy shouldn't you be turning away from us instead of communicating with us?

Disrespect Captain? Who are you to talk about disrespect? I am tolerant towards different perspectives, but it's disrespectful at the end of the day to categorize someone else as filth. Hence, you are in no better position and therefore flawed like all of us. I am not exactly sure from which church you come from that equals a human being with filth.
Indeed, in God we trust and not on mankind, because we are weak.
That's why when I see the leaders of these churches doing and saying such things about other human beings, I practice my faith at the end of the day independently and profess my faith directly to God. What are considered sacred spaces have become replenished with the hatred and insensitivity that your words seem to confess.
I pray for you my brother and hope that you can one day spew out love rather than addressing a group of people as filth and denying them the basic rigth to live.
