I recently came across an article in The Advocate that was written by a 19 year old gay teen from Longview, Washington named Kyle Rice.

In this article Kyle spoke about his struggle to surpress his same sex attractions in order to live the life he knew God wanted him to live. Kyle describes himself as a conservative republican who has fought to keep pro gay legislation from passing in his state, despite being fully aware of his homosexuality. He even goes so far to say that he hates being gay and has attended ex-gay ministries in an attempt to "change".

This article struck a very sensitive chord with me for many different reasons. I personally know what it feels like to be both gay and christian and the inner turmoil it can cause if you believe every single word that is written in the bible, and if you receive every word from a minister's mouth as truth, especially when it's regarding homosexuality, or just sex period.

Secondly, I was texting a friend hours before reading the article who was going through a similar situation.

It's no secret that I'm pro black and pro gay, but before I became aware of any of those things I was in the hands of a supreme being who knew me before I knew myself, who watched over and cared for me better than I or my parents ever could. I call him Jesus, you may call him Mohammed, Buddha, the Light, whomever you worship it's fine .

I decided very early that I was not going to let anyone or anything stand in the way of my relationship with God or block the blessings that I knew were mine to claim, not even my sexuality, nor I did I believe it would.

Words are so powerful, and if you as a same-gender loving person don't know your worth and realize your inheritance in God's kingdom, or don't take the initiative to study the word on your own, then you'll find yourself writing articles like Kyle and hating the the very thing God created, yourself.
